The Rugby World Cup going on in England opened up new possibilities to learn and practise the language in a fun and relaxed way.
What is “mauling”? What is “rucking”? What is a “set piece contest”? Why is “a try” called a try and not a goal? These were some of the many questions posed to students. While most of them knew the answer to the game-related questions, there were several history-of-the-game ones that remained unanswered. It was through presentations, games, videos and live demonstrations (oh yes! Rugby! Live! And girls participating as well) that it all dawned on us and we have now officially become experts in the game that was born in England over a century ago… and in English, of course!
